Paul C. McKain (FWP), is adding his name to the ballot for the 2010 Election for the 2nd Congressional District in Florida. Mr. McKain has been a resident of the state he wants to serve for over 50 years.

Paul was born in 1951 in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia. Not long after, his family moved to Florida and he has lived here ever since. Currently, Paul and his wife of 28 years, Ruth, and their three children reside in the Tallahassee area. Paul enjoys all that Florida has to offer. In his spare time you can find him camping, fishing, skin diving, and surfing.

Paul McKain was educated at Miami Dade Junior college; upon graduating, he went to work at Southern Bell as a lineman and repairman for four years. Paul then took a job working for the Miami Dade Circuit Court, and while working he decided to go back to school to further his education. Paul attended Florida International University where he obtained his Bachelors of Science degree with a major in education and a minor in physical science. After completing his education, Paul taught school for over three years. He then applied to join the Sunrise Florida Fire/Rescue Department (SFFRD) where he worked as a Fire Fighter and Paramedic until his retirement in 2003, 23 years later.

While off duty from his job at SFFRD, Paul built and developed several businesses. Thanks to Paul and his invention of a vacuum release system culminating with the passage of Federal legislation, every public pool and spa is now required to have this release system on their vacuums to prevent the possibility of loss of life, limb or other injury. This shows Paul has the common sense approach of “Find a problem, Fix a problem,” and he is not afraid to do so. With the success of his vacuum release system, Paul McKain decided to write a book in 2007 titled Successful Failures: So You Have an Idea, Now What? to help other aspiring inventors and businessmen succeed in their endeavors.

Paul McKain is now challenging incumbent Allen Boyd for the seat in Congress, representing Florida’s 2nd District, and wants to take the same “Find a Problem, Fix a Problem” approach to DC.

Paul’s thoughts on the Copenhagen conference follow below:

Here we go again.  With “global warming” being exchanged for “climate change” as the term-of-choice as more people edge away from feeling certain of the science, we have the Clintons emerging as propaganda Czars at best.

As laid out in my statement regarding States’ rights, the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act, which took effect in 1996 under Bill Clinton, posed as a bill to protect States’ rights.  It did nothing of the sort.  It simply stated that the Federal Government had to “consider” the impact of unfunded legislation on the states.  Lots of hype and no substance.  (You really expect legislators to seriously “consider” the bills they’re voting on, when they don’t even read them?)  This is an issue that I intend to deal with early in my term as U.S. Representative.  The Unfunded Mandates Reform Act needs teeth put into it.  It needs to state that any legislation passed on to the states must be either funded or discarded.  Just as Bill Clinton spun that legislation to hide the fact that taxpayer money was actually still going to be recklessly spent, his wife is now carrying the torch.

As the Copenhagen climate summit appeared to be on the verge of unraveling, the United States announced on Thursday its support in the form of an annual $100 billion climate protection fund.

Hillary Clinton pledged this gracious sum of $100 billion on behalf of American taxpayers’ checkbooks.  This is nothing short of reparations to emerging countries – though I don’t know that even that term is appropriate.  ”Reparations” implies that wrong has been done to said emerging countries, that industrialized nations have harmed them in warming the globe with their success, though the science of manmade global warming is far from “settled.”

So where is this $100 billion coming from, in our deeply-indebted state?  Reportedly, the money will partially be raised by taxing aviation and shipping, as proposed by the European Union.  Impact to you?  This will increase the cost of everything we purchase, as everything we purchase is shipped.

And in order to sell this pledge to the American people, the protection of rain forests will be made a U.S. priority.  Mrs. Clinton wants to pull your heartstrings so you’ll loosen your pursestrings.  The Clintons and the White House will say anything to meet their agenda.

I’m sick of hearing about us fawning to other nations and apologizing for supposed wrongs.  Our agenda’s attitude needs to once again be based on the understanding that America is great.  Not doing so will result in a weak foreign presence.  Well – it already has.  As proof, the lack of respect given to our President from the world is evidenced by the applause Venezuelan “President” Hugo Chavez received upon insinuating that President Obama was Satan.  (The mention of sulfur is a reference to hell.)

It’s time to stop trying to impress the world, and start rebuilding what has been destroyed over the past year: our dignity.
