The Florida Health Care Freedom Act written by State Senator Carey Baker and Representative Scott Plakon moved one step closer to the November ballot today. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted favorably on this measure today. The Senate website has not posted the “ayes” and “nays” yet but it is expected that the vote went along party lines with the possible exception of Republican senator Garrett Richter who sometimes votes with the opposition.
In the House, after weeks of your phone calls and the sterling example set by the Senate, Representative Nick Thompson has put the House version, HJR37 on the agenda for Monday, March 22,2010. That agenda is posted below.
Please take a few minutes and call Rep. Nick Thompson’s office at Phone: (850) 488-1541 or (239) 533-2411. As strident as we were in asking him to hear this bill it would be fair to call and show him appreciation. You can also go to his House page to email him: http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Representatives/details.aspx?MemberId=4373&SessionId=64
Committee member roster and contact information for friendly and positive encouragement purposes between now and Monday can be found at: http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Committees/committeesdetail.aspx?SessionId=64&CommitteeId=2467
This is our protection against unconstitutional federally mandated nationalized health care. There is still much work to be done before this protection is in our state constitution. We must rally behind it for it to succeed.
